Team History

MOFO is the elite Winnipeg-based juniors club touring ultimate team. "Masters Of Flying Objects" is consistently one of the most competitive junior ultimate teams in the country and is a perennial contender for the National Juniors division title at the Canadian Ultimate Championships every year.

MOFO owes its illustrious history of consistently strong results and near-domination of the Canadian Junior ultimate scene to a combination of : 1) a well-established and successful Winnipeg ultimate program, 2) the pure talent, drive, and determination of Winnipeg junior players, and 3) phenomenal coaching staff. It is even more impressive that MOFO is based out of a city with such a small population compared with other significantly larger ultimate centers.

Winnipeg's success in ultimate at the Junior level first was realized when the Canadian Junior Ultimate Coordinator, Dean Wright, introduced a Juniors Division into the Canadian Ultimate Championships when the event was held in Winnipeg in 1994. Winnipeg went on to claim the first Junior title in the division's inaugural year. MOFO was technically founded in 1998, although its creation may only have been as simple as the decision to pick a permanent team name to establish a recognizable dynasty in the junior ultimate community. MOFO's initial successes could be attributed to the stellar organizing and coaching of Dean Wright (who has been deemed the "founder of junior ultimate in Canada"). After going through some growing pains and reworking of its coaching structure and staff, MOFO found the right formula to achieve success, eventually becoming the first team to win three consecutive Juniors division titles under the tutelage of coach and MOFO alum, Colin Yeung.

MOFO consistently produces strong players who represent the country on the national junior teams competing at the World Ultimate and Guts Championships and at the World Junior Ultimate Championships. In addition to replenishing the ranks of Winnipeg's adult club touring teams General Strike, Crave, and Chaos, previous MOFO alumni have eventually gone on to play on such renowned club teams as GOAT, Furious George, Phoenix, Invictus, TFP, Toronto Lotus, Ottawa Capitals, and Vancouver Roughriders, as well as the University club teams UBC Thunderbirds and Queen's Mothership. MOFO will always have a surplus of talented and skilled players with which to fill its roster, and it is exciting to think of what MOFO will accomplish as its future unfolds.
